Dennis Schroder faced the Los Angeles Lakers point guard in the corridors of the Crypto.com Arena
The rivalry between Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings is one of the most heated in the NBAeven if in other moments of history it was much more heated. Dennis Schröder against Luka Dončić, on the other hand, might seem like a less obvious rivalry, even after matches like the quarterfinals of the last EuroBasket. However, on December 28, the two teams faced each other and the guards had several arguments on the court.
The discussion, however, intensified and continued after the match. Second Chris Haynes, Schroder faced Doncic 40 minutes after the game endedin a corridor of the Crypto.com Arena. Therefore, on Sunday, January 11, the NBA announced that Schroder is suspended for the next three games, while Doncic did not receive any suspension. With this, the Kings point guard will not face the Lakers on Wednesday the 13th and will also miss the games against the Houston Rockets on Monday the 11th and against the New York Knicks on Friday the 16th.
So far this season, the point guard turned out to be a disappointment for the Sacramento franchise. That’s because the Kings paid $45 million for a three-year contract with Schroder, who arrived to be the starting point guard the team desperately needed following the departure of De’Aaron Fox. However, the German’s starting point guard role lasted just 12 games and he was replaced by Russell Westbrook, signed in the final moments before the start of the regular season.
At 31, however, his averages are good: 13 points, 3.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists.

During the game of the 28th, which saw a comfortable 125-101 victory for the Lakers, the two guards argued several times. Some moments were even immortalized by fans in the stands and shared on social media. In one of them, Doncic tells Schroder that the guard should have accepted the $84 million contract offered by the Lakers in 2021. It is worth mentioning that the current Kings player rejected the extension with the Los Angeles Lakers and signed a $5.9 million contract with the Boston Celtics.
On another occasion, it was Schröder who spoke while the two players waited for the rebound of a free throw. This time, the German said: “I’ll give you a good lesson”and gave a gentle push to Doncic, who didn’t seem particularly engaged or concerned.

“When the free agent market opened, he was the number one player in the league who fit that profile perfectly,” GM Scott Perry said during the press conference introducing the player.
However, for Schroder and the Kings, things haven’t gone as they could have so far and the partnership seems to have already come to an end.
Therefore, second Evan Sidery, the Kings are open to trading the point guarda step towards a practically total reconstruction of the roster. Overall, the point guard is just another Kings player who isn’t performing at his best this season. The team has a record of eight wins and 30 losses, occupying 14th place in the Western Conference and also missing, by far, the Play-In tournament. For this reason, since the beginning of the season, several rumors have circulated that the franchise would like to part ways with the entire roster.
