Farioli Extends FC Porto Contract: Dream Start Continues

Francesco Farioli has extended his contract with FC Porto until the summer of 2028. The Portuguese club has officially announced this. The former Ajax coach is rewarded for an exceptionally strong start to the season.

Farioli only signed for Estádio do Dragão last summer, after leaving Ajax. Nevertheless, chairman André Villas-Boas decided to break open and extend his contract in January. The previously signed contract ran until mid-2027.

FC Porto runs like a machine under Farioli. The club is undefeated at the top of the Liga Portugal after seventeen rounds, with sixteen wins and one draw. The club is also doing well in Europe and seems to be well on its way to the knockout phase of the Europa League. With two games to go, FC Porto is eighth in the League Phase of the tournament. If they maintain that position, they can skip the intermediate round.

With the extension, FC Porto may want to make a strong statement towards the upcoming match. Then they will face arch-rival Benfica in the Portuguese Cup. In a competitive context, the two teams already met once earlier this season and then the battle with José Mourinho ended in a bloodless 0-0. The new meeting awaits on Wednesday evening, January 14.
