Handling Conflict Privately

Pirmin Schwegler speaks plainly after the defeat against FC Bayern. Wolfsburg’s sports director defends himself against allegations of misusing his insider knowledge.

There will be a one-on-one conversation! Pirmin Schwegler has defended himself against the accusations of having made use of his insider knowledge in Wolfsburg – and announced that he would meet with Frankfurt’s sports director Markus Krösche.

“Of course I’ll clarify that with Markus. There’s nothing to clarify,” said Schwegler after VfL Wolfsburg’s 8-1 loss to FC Bayern DAZN clearly.

This transfer provided plenty of fuel

The background is the transfer of Younes Ebnoutalib. Wolfsburg also actively courted Frankfurt’s new striker jewel, even if the whiz kid ultimately decided on Eintracht.

The SBU Ebnoutalib spent ten million euros (including bonus payments). Wolfsburg would probably have been prepared to pay a similar amount.

Schwegler, until recently the director of professional football in Frankfurt, only hired as sports director in Wolfsburg in December. So the interest in Ebnoutalib didn’t come from somewhere.

“A lot has been interpreted into it and that’s not true! But I’ll do that with him (Krösche, Anm. d. Red.) can also be clarified in private,” Schwegler announced.

Is the bond between Schwegler and his former club now broken? “I hope not. That would surprise me very, very much. We’ll talk about it in person,” explained Schwegler.

Schwegler played for Eintracht for years

The Swiss played for Eintracht for five years. In January last year he took over as director of professional football.

After his move to league rival Wolfsburg and the explosive Ebnoutalib deal, there was a lot of noise about Schwegler, although both parties emphasized that the cooperation was always characterized by mutual respect.

“I would also like to clear up some of what was written in the media and I will clear that up – because that is not true,” the 38-year-old made clear.
