Ajax had difficulty winning the away match against Telstar in the Premier League. The Amsterdam team seemed to be on their way to a comfortable victory, but still had to work hard for the win in the final phase: 2-3.
Telstar played almost the entire second half with ten men due to a red card for newcomer Cedric Hatenboer.
Ajax coach Fred Grim did not change his team compared to the last match before the winter break, against NEC (2-2). This meant that 18-year-old Sean Steur was given a starting place again, as a replacement for Kenneth Taylor, who had left for Lazio.
The number three in the Eredivisie had everything in order in Velsen-Zuid before half time. Ajax played well and did not let the usually busy Telstar get into the match.
Quick goals Ajax
Oscar Gloukh scored the Amsterdam opening goal after eleven minutes. The Israeli’s shot was difficult to assess for Telstar goalkeeper Ronald Koeman junior, who seemed a bit surprised and did not look good (0-1).
Ajax continued and made it 0-2 three minutes later through Mika Godts, who was sent away on the left by Youri Baas. Godts made his eighth of the season with a placed shot.

Telstar’s comeback aspirations seemed to be thrown out the window in the 53rd minute, when Cedric Hatenboer was sent off with a direct red card.
The loanee from Anderlecht stood with the bottom of his shoe on the Ajax midfielder’s calf during a duel with Youri Regeer. Hatenboer immediately apologized, but did cause two abrasions on Regeer’s leg.
Referee Jeroen Manschot initially showed the yellow card, but after the intervention of the video referee, Hatenboer still saw red.

Baas headed Ajax to 0-3 in the 72nd minute, making the match seem over.
But it was the same Boss who suddenly created some hope for Telstar with an own goal in the 78th minute. The team of coach Anthony Correia then played full on attack and was even rewarded with Danny Bakker’s 2-3.
Ajax then missed a number of chances for the fourth goal on the counter, which kept it exciting until the end. But a miracle comeback did not happen for Telstar.
