FC Barcelona is always on the lookout for young talent, constantly seeking to strengthen its training center, La Masia.
The Catalan club are set to sign Egyptian striker Hamza Abdelhamid from Al Ahly, and another 17-year-old could also join Catalonia in the coming weeks.
In recent days, FC Barcelona reached an agreement for the loan of João Cancelo, from Al Hilal. The Portuguese might not be the only Portuguese right-back to join the La Liga leaders. According to A Bola (via MD), the Catalan club is interested in Daniel Banjaqui and has already started discussions with his representatives.
Who is Daniel Banjaqui?
Banjaqui, who only turns 18 in March, is considered Portugal’s most promising right-back and has already distinguished himself on the international scene. In 2025, he contributed to the U17s’ victories at the Euro and the World Cup, starting in both competitions.
He made his first-team debut at Benfica in December, but his future at the Portuguese club is uncertain. He is yet to sign a new contract and, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2027, Benfica could be forced to accept a cut-price offer this month or at the end of the season if it becomes clear he will not extend.
Barcelona is closely monitoring the situation
Naturally, Barcelona are monitoring the situation closely. The Catalan club sees Banjaqui as a potential recruit capable of joining the first team in the years to come, if he were to join Catalonia. FC Barcelona would be in an ideal position to seize the opportunity if his departure from Benfica is confirmed, although they could face strong competition from many other major European clubs who are also monitoring the situation closely.
