Games between Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart have recently regularly been among the most attractive calling cards in the Bundesliga. Apart from honorary merits, VfB received little reward for offensive football worth seeing; until this Saturday evening, Stuttgart had not won a league game against Bayer since 2018, not at home on the Neckar and certainly not on the Rhine. Sebastian Hoeneß always received a lot of friendly compliments from Xabi Alonso, but the Spaniard kept the points himself. Including three cup matches, VfB had not won against Bayer in 15 games.
