Fenerbahçe has won the Turkish Super Cup for the tenth time. Record winner Galatasaray (17 wins) was defeated 2-0 in the final in the Atatürk Stadium.
The battle for the super cup was played for the first time this year with four clubs. Fenerbahçe defeated Samsunspor 2-0 in the semi-finals and national champion and cup winner Galatasaray proved to be too big for Trabzonspor (4-1).
In the final, debutant Mattéo Guendouzi opened the scoring with a slider from distance. The French midfielder played an entire match for his old club Lazio three days ago and, when PSV midfielder Joey Veerman proved unfeasible, moved to Istanbul for 28 million euros. In Rome, a place (and money) became available for the arrival of Kenneth Taylor.
After the break, Oosterwolde decided the game. The former FC Twente player scored well from a corner kick. The Dutch centre-back, who had scored twice before in three years in Turkish service, was pulled backwards by an opponent, but found the far corner while falling.
