Patrick Dippel: Benfica Recruitment Role Confirmed

Patrick Dippel said in a LinkedIn post that he has started work as Benfica’s director of recruitment, ahead of any official club confirmation.

The 46-year-old stated he now works for Sport Lisboa e Benfica in that role. His post was quickly shared by supporters and industry figures, effectively confirming talk that had circulated in Portuguese football in recent weeks.

Dippel brings about 20 years of scouting experience. His career includes roles with the German Football Association, Bayern Munich, Hamburg, Sturm Graz and, most recently, Basel.

He is recognised as one of the pioneers in applying artificial intelligence and data analysis to football recruitment. His reputation rests on combining traditional observation with advanced technological tools, a fit widely seen as aligned with Benfica’s strategy.

In early November, Rui Costa said a new scouting director had been agreed before the second round of the club’s elections. Formal confirmation from Benfica is still pending, but Dippel’s post indicates the new recruitment lead has already begun his duties.
