The departure of Ivan Leko from KAA Gent, towards Club Brugge, also hit Michal Skóras hard. The Polish winger made the switch in the opposite direction a few months earlier and had a good relationship with his trainer.
“Yes, that was hard to swallow,” he admits in an interview with The Newspaper. “Not that I came to Ghent just for Leko, but he wanted me there. We had a strong relationship.”
Yet Skóras tries to put the departure into perspective. According to him, these types of situations are part of football. “I also said it to the others: in football everything can change in a week. You always have to be prepared for the worst. It is easy to judge that now, but no one knows how he would react in such a situation.” According to Skóras, the chapter has now been closed. “I think everyone is happy now and we can put this to rest.”
Skóras was suspended for the last match against Club Brugge and was not present in the stadium. “I didn’t join the team because I wanted to spend some time with my son. In addition, I didn’t really know what to expect from the Bruges fans if I were in the stands.” He deliberately leaves it open whether he spoke to Leko afterwards. “I’d rather not answer that. It doesn’t change anything.”
