Anthony Edwards became the third youngest player in NBA history to reach 10,000 career points with his 23rd point in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 131-122 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night.
At 24 years and 156 days, Edwards is second only to LeBron James (23 years and 59 days) and Kevin Durant (24 years and 33 days). Edwards is one of seven players in league history to reach 10,000 points before the age of 25, joining Kobe Bryant, Luka Doncic, Tracy McGrady and Carmelo Anthony.
“To be honest, it’s rewarding, but I know I still have a long way to go, so it’s really nothing, really,” Edwards said. “I’m a little disappointed to have passed Kobe. I would have preferred to wait 100 days or something,” he added.
Edwards had 25 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds, as the Timberwolves recorded their best percentages of the season in field goal shooting (57%) and 3-point shooting (53%). Edwards made 10 of 20 shots, and four of seven three-point attempts.
The top pick in the 2020 auction made his NBA debut at the age of 19. He reached the 10,000 point mark in 412 games, placing him as the 28th fastest player in NBA history and 7th fastest among active players, behind Luka Doncic (358), Lebron James (368), Joel Embiid (373), Kevin Durant (381), Trae Young (390) and Donovan Mitchell (410).
