NFL Coach Firing: Why Now?

NFL franchise Miami Dolphins part ways with head coach Mike McDaniel.

After four years, head coach Mike McDaniel with the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL) is over. The franchise drew conclusions from a disappointing season with just seven wins on Thursday and parted ways with the 42-year-old.

“After careful consideration and extensive discussions since the end of the season, I have determined that our organization requires comprehensive change,” said club owner Stephen Ross. He informed McDaniel about the separation that morning.

McDaniel took over the position for the 2022/23 season. Under his direction, the team made it into the play-offs twice (22/23, 23/24), but was eliminated in the wildcard round each time. In the main round there were a total of 35 wins and 33 defeats under McDaniel.

Since last weekend, McDaniel is the sixth NFL head coach to leave. The Arizona Cardinals, Las Vegas Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens previously fired their head coaches. Miami was McDaniel’s first stop as the main coach.
