Younes Namli, who has returned to PEC Zwolle, has great ambitions. The 31-year-old playmaker comes over from the French Le Havre AC and immediately wants to compete for success in Overijssel again. For example, Namli aims to participate in the European play-offs.
“PEC has a special place in my heart, everyone knows that,” Namli begins in conversation Football International. “But in the conversations with (technical director) Gerry (Hamstra, ed.) I also heard exactly what I wanted to hear. We both agree that the club must try to take the next step.”
Although PEC is currently fourteenth in the Eredivisie, Namli sets the bar high. “I am a top athlete, then you want to challenge yourself. I want to reach the play-offs for European football with PEC. It doesn’t matter if that doesn’t work out, as long as you have done everything you can. You have to try,” said the Danish winger.
With this, Namli wants to achieve what PEC missed on two points last season. “Everyone started to believe in it in the last five games and it almost worked. You have to have that belief from the start of the season. I want to take the club to a higher level, that is my approach. I am a piece of the puzzle and I will try to take on my role. No one is Lionel Messi here, otherwise you don’t play at PEC. We all need each other,” Namli concludes.
