Nymburk Defeats Heidelberg: Advance to LM Round of 16

Nymburk followed up on Tuesday’s win in Germany 72:63 and will play in the eight-final group L with Tenerife, Gran Canaria and the better of the pair Trieste – Szolnok.

While in the first game Nymburk led 10:0 at the beginning, the opponent had a better start at Královka, which gained a 17:8 lead. Then Nymburk made two baskets in a row for the first time in the game, when Marcus Santos-Silva made a pass and Jhamir Brickus added a three-pointer, but on the other side, Mateo Šerič also hit from the perimeter. Thanks to one six by Brickus and two by Vojtěch Hruban, the home team corrected to 16:18, Heidelberg escaped to six points by the end of the first quarter.

Nymburk started the second ten-minute period with two successful free throws, but Heidelberg immediately took the lead 27:18. Nymburk started with a triple by Matěj Svoboda and Keyshawn Feazell followed it up with a smash. Bohačík’s shot from distance brought the home team within three points, but Heidelberg bounced back again. At 31:36, JT Shumate made a three-pointer and two sixes, and it was tied. The score was 38:38 at halftime, Nymburk could have taken the lead, but converted only two of five free throws.

At the beginning of the second half, the guests took a 49:41 lead with a seven-point streak. DJ Horne’s three-pointer gave Heidelberg a double-digit lead for the first time. With the score 45:56, Nymburk started an eleven-point streak at the turn of the third and fourth quarter, which was led by Bohačík with seven points thanks to two three-pointers. Only Dušan Neškovič interrupted it with a precise shot from the perimeter.

Bohačík responded to the guests’ lead of 61:56 with his fourth three-pointer in the match, and captain Martin Kříž equalized. Bohačík with his next basket and Svoboda with two sixes moved the score to 65:61. Horne broke the streak, but after Hruban’s hit and three sixes by Svoboda, it was already 70:63. The visitors’ attempt to create drama was rejected by Bohačík with two three-pointers, who completed the score of the match with a successful free throw.
