Upamecano: Bayern Contract Extension Confirmed | Real Madrid & PSG Snubbed

It will extend to Bavaria. Announced on the shelves of Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Liverpool in particular, Dayot Upamecano will continue the adventure with Bayern Munich, a club he joined in the summer of 2021.

According to information from several German media and L’Équipe, which we are able to confirm, the 27-year-old central defender, at the end of his contract in less than six months, will sign a new long-term lease with the reigning German champions. The French international (35 caps, 2 goals) should now be linked to Bayern until 2030 or even 2031, the only uncertainty still existing in this matter.

A doubled salary

Upamecano, considered one of the best players in his position currently, will benefit from a very significant salary increase. His annual salary should be around 20 million euros, double what he currently receives. In addition to this increase, the native of Évreux should benefit from a signing bonus estimated at 20 million euros, a delicate point having long slowed down negotiations between the two parties.

Just like the question of the release clause which should be added to Upamecano’s new contract, to the tune of 65 million euros. The latter could take effect from the summer of 2027 and had clearly cooled the Bavarian leaders, usually reluctant to accept this type of deal, especially at such a low price given the value of the player.

But faced with growing pressure – Upamecano being free to discuss individually with clubs since the start of 2026 – and aware of the importance of the French defender in Vincent Kompany’s system, Bayern finally gave in.

“He won’t find better elsewhere”

“We made an offer to Upa, which we improved again recently,” confirmed Jan-Christian Dreesen, chairman of the board of directors of Bayern, this Monday during an interview with Sky Sports Germany. “This was discussed several times with his advisors, and the player took note of it. We are awaiting his definitive response. I think he should sign what he has in front of him, because he won’t find anything better elsewhere. We made him an exceptional offer, which he deserves, knowing that he has been very successful for a year and a half,” recalled the manager.

All that now remains is official confirmation, while Upamecano should benefit from the fourth highest salary in the squad, behind Harry Kane (25 million euros per year), Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala (24 million euros per year).
