English football is worried about one of its legends. Former England captain and coach Kevin Keegan (74) is undergoing treatment for recently diagnosed cancer, according to a statement from his family released on Wednesday. “Kevin Keegan was recently admitted to hospital for further assessment following persistent abdominal symptoms. These examinations revealed cancer, for which Kevin will undergo treatment,” explains the text relayed by Newcastle, one of his former clubs.

The man nicknamed “King Kev” scored 21 goals and played 63 matches for the England team, which he later managed briefly as coach (1999-2000). He launched his coaching career on the Newcastle bench (1992-1997), narrowly missing the title at the end of the 1995/1996 season. He also managed the Fulham and Manchester City teams.
