PARTIAL. Andreas Palicka was shot in the face in Sweden’s EC general rep.

The veteran goalkeeper has gone to hospital.

Sweden turned 4-6 to 11-7 in seven minutes in the European Championship rematch against Brazil and went into half-time with a safe 17-11 lead after Mikael Appelgren made a big play in the Swedish goal before 4014 in Partille Arena.

When the second half began, Appelgren had switched with goalkeeper and veteran colleague Andreas Palicka as predetermined.

But Palicka only managed to be on the field for five minutes before he received a long-range shot in the face that unfortunately hit both the eye and the nose.

Norsten replaced

Palicka got off and sat on the bench with a nosebleed but had to quickly disappear into the dressing room as the medical team took a closer look at him.

– He had a nosebleed, lost his eye lens and is being examined by a doctor, announced press manager Daniel Vandor.

I thought it was just a nosebleed.

– I thought so too. I stood there coaching and don’t know more, but we will get an answer to that.

Fabian Norsten, who looks set to be the third goalkeeper in the EC, got the chance when Palicka stepped off while Appelgren remained on the bench.

At the same time, Albin Lagergren stepped off with what appeared to be a foot problem. But the right-back sat quietly on the bench during the match that Sweden won against Brazil, just like last Saturday. This time by 33–24.

Sweden starts the EC next Saturday in Malmö against the Netherlands.
