Västsvenska decided in the third period
The F16 final between Västsvenska and Småland-Blekinge became an even story for a long time. Västsvenska took the lead late in the first period through Vida Kärneus Bloom, before the same player made it 2-0 early in the second period.
However, Småland-Blekinge fought their way back into the match and reduced the score twice again, but in the third period Västsvenska was able to pull away. With three goals in the final act, the final score was set at 6–2, and the gold was secured.
After the final signal, Vida Kärneus Bloom tried to put into words the feelings as a newly crowned Swedish champion.
– It feels absolutely fantastic, you can’t take it in. We’ve been talking about this all the time since we first met and it feels so good to have brought home the gold now.
She also highlights the team’s strength as one of the keys to success in the championship.
– I think the key for us is that we have such a good point on the team and that everyone is so good. We don’t have many star players, but we are very good together as a team.
Despite the nervousness of the final, the team held together the whole way and was able to decide the match in a strong third period.
– Of course it is nervous with a final. But we do it together and have become a team in such a short time. I’m proud of every single one.
