This is a first step towards the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. One month to the day before the opening ceremony, which will take place on February 6 partly in the heart of the San Siro stadium, the French Olympic and Paralympic committees revealed this Tuesday morning the list of candidates for the role of flag bearer.
Seven athletes are in the running to succeed Kevin Rolland and Tessa Worley: skaters Kevin Aymoz, Guillaume Cizeron and Adam Siao Him Fa, skiers Victor Muffat-Jeandet and Clément Noël as well as snowboarders Julia Pereira and Chloé Trespeuch. The absence of Alexis Pinturault, a big name in French skiing who should compete in the last Games of his immense career, should be noted.
Concerning the Paralympic delegation, only four candidates are in the running, starting with para-snowboarder Maxime Montaggioni. Para-skiers Lou Braz-Dagand and Jordan Broisin are also candidates, as is para-snowboarder Cécile Hernandez, whose “final designation” will be effective after “a vote of confidence”, specifies the press release from the French Paralympic committee.
The standard bearers definitively elected on January 30
As a reminder, two pairs will be chosen to represent France during the two opening ceremonies. The Paralympic flag bearers will not parade in the Verona Arena on March 6, the chosen location being too far from the competition sites.
The flag bearers will be elected following a vote involving all the athletes selected for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The latter will be held from January 27 to 29 and the name of the winners will be made official on January 30.
