Karl, who is aiming to earn a senior call-up in the near future, also received praise from his World Cup-winning compatriots. Bayern legend Thomas Muller is another figure who is part of the teenager’s fan club.
Muller, who currently plays in MLS with the Vancouver Whitecaps, said about Karl and why he could be compared to the striker who has played for Bayern and Arsenal: “His shooting technique is of course extraordinary. He has very good finishing, and that is already a very good asset to have. Because if you play in attack for FC Bayern and you are energetic and lively, you will constantly find yourself in a goal-scoring position.”
“Therefore, his goals are not a fluke; he really has quality. The questions that will determine his future are more about how often he gets into such situations, whether he can create them himself, whether he needs the team to do it for him, and so on.”
“Let’s take our old friend Lukas Podolski as an example: when he has the ball in a good position on his left foot, it goes straight to ‘boom’. But compared to the best footballers in the world, he doesn’t get into that shooting position often enough.”
Karl admits that he — like fellow wonderkid Lamine Yamal from Barcelona — still has a lot to learn. Bayern are ready to teach that lesson, while hoping their own superstar can be kept from the exit door for as long as possible.
