The engine

The victory in the first stage and the lead in the general classification seemed to go to Ross Branch, but a six-minute time penalty has set him back far. As a result, Edgar Canet inherited the win and retained the lead in the standings. KTM teammate Daniel Sanders is just over a minute behind, with Ricky Brabec half a minute behind. Tosha Schareina and Luciano Benavides ensure that the top five consists entirely of KTMs and Hondas. Ian Olthof, the only Dutch participant, has moved up to 47th place in the rankings thanks to a solid stage.

Auto’s

The first stage victory of this Dakar Rally among the cars goes to Guillaume de Mévius and navigator Mathieu Baumel. The X-Raid Mini crew seemed to be heading for second place behind Mattias Ekström for a long time, until the Swede lost about two minutes to Ford in the final phase and dropped back to fourth place. Nasser Al-Attiyah and Martin Prokop completed the top three and, together with De Mévius, also form the first top three of the general classification.

Trucks

What applies to the cars also applies to the trucks after the prologue: there is still no general classification, because the short opening stage does not count. Mitchel van den Brink therefore does not gain much from his victory on Saturday, although he has earned himself the right to be the first to choose his starting position for the first stage on Sunday. In addition, he dealt a small blow to defending champion Macik, who did not get further than the sixth fastest time.
