Wembanyama Injury Update: Latest News & Recovery

The San Antonio Spurs were worried about the health of Victor Wembanyama. However, the results of an MRI scan allow the franchise to breathe a sigh of relief.

How ESPN reported, there is no structural damage in the injured left knee. Although Wembanyama announced immediately after the win over the New York Knicks on Wednesday that he would be available for the next game, he did not make the trip to Indianapolis for the visit to the Indiana Pacers. He is also listed as questionable for Saturday’s home game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Wembanyama hyperextended his left knee around ten minutes before the end in a rebound situation with the guests’ Karl-Anthony Towns and Jordan Clarkson. The 21-year-old then limped into the Spurs dressing room and did not return to the game, even though he actually planned to.

“It was a simple hyperextension, so it should [die Pause, Anm. d. Red.] be minimal. I was confident. I was very close to getting back in the game. They had to hold me back,” the Frenchman said afterwards. Even without him, his team managed to win the new edition of the most recent cup final with 134:132.

Injuries have derailed Wembanyama several times in the recent past. Last season was ended prematurely for him due to a blood clot in his shoulder. This season he missed twelve games due to a calf strain.

In terms of sport, things are going great for his team with and without him on the field. With a record of 24-9, the Spurs currently occupy second place in the Western Conference. The Texans were also able to cause a stir with three wins over the reigning champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
