The UDR party, one of Marine Le Pen’s allies, has started a parliamentary debate on the French public television service, which it accuses of being hostile to the far-right. The same template that the more polarized conservative forces have been applying to the BBC is thus beginning to be imposed, with the intention of laminating it and making it small. Macron, who has also often criticized it, managed to get the Senate to vote in favor of eliminating the specific canon that financed the audiovisual entity. Le Pen, directly, wants to privatize it. In other words, kill it, because precisely the ultimate meaning of public service television is that it assumes content of general interest that would be in short supply if it had to be financed only privately.
