Trevon Diggs: Cowboys Release, NFL News

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has been released by the team, NFL Network’s Tom Polissero reports.

If he is claimed on waivers by a new team, it would inherit a three-year contract that calls for Diggs to pocket $14.5 million in 2026, with a salary cap hit of more than $18.44 million.

Diggs will become a free agent if he goes undrafted and will not need to wait until March to sign with another team if he remains a free agent until the end of the regular season.

Diggs signed a five-year contract extension worth $97 million in 2023, but has only played in 21 games over the past three seasons due to knee injuries. He tore his left ACL in training in 2023 and missed six games last year.

This year, he missed eight games with a right knee problem and suffered a concussion in a domestic accident which, he later revealed, happened while he was trying to set up a television stand.

He had his best season in 2021, when he made 11 interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns, in addition to amassing 21 pass breakups.

This news comes shortly after his brother, Stefon, was charged with strangulation and assault on Tuesday.
