Joseba Núñez: Barakaldo CF Squad Plans – First Federation

January is soon arriving and the offices of many clubs are already fuming, looking to make moves that will bring them closer to their respective objectives. Barakaldo is thirteenth and is two points above the relegation places. They have 24 players with a first team record on the squad. However, Joseba Núñez, general director of the entity, tells EL CORREO that they do not plan to be involved in much activity in this winter market. They still don’t have anything finalized and they don’t want to revolutionize the squad either.

– How do you evaluate the team’s role so far?

– It is complicated if you only look at the classification, but I have liked the team almost every game. It is true that the areas have penalized us. We lacked efficiency in converting the chances we created. Most of the time we have carried the weight of the match and we have gone further than the rival. Due to merit, in our case it is clear that we are missing points. However, football is the areas and we must improve in that.

– What is the greatest strength of this Barakaldo?

– The block. We have a large squad where anyone can play. This is what has to boost us in the second round to make better numbers. We have two players per position and that internal competitiveness has to give us results.

– And what has he lacked to consolidate himself at the top of the table?

– Efficiency in the areas. On an offensive level, we have generated enough chances to score more goals. Also the other way around. The rivals have done little damage to us and have penalized us.

– In general terms, are you happy with the performance of the squad?

– Yes, I am very happy. Note that last year, at this point, we were second and it seemed like we were going out. Still, I am convinced that this team is as good or better than last year’s. The template is broader. There are players who can still give a little more point and, if everyone is at one hundred percent, the team will go up.

– Will there be movements in this winter market?

– We are a calm club in this sense. Except for specific things, we don’t like to make big changes. Logically we are open to possible movements that may arise. I will talk to all the players. Maybe someone who has few minutes wants a change of scenery and we also have all the players looked at by position, for what may happen, but without any urgency.

– Is there anything closed?

– No, we have nothing or progress now. These two weeks I want to talk to all the players and know their feelings. Above all, I like to be on top of those who have played the fewest minutes. For our part, we are seeing things, but nothing is done.

– Has any player asked to leave?

– At the moment, no. I have not had any notification of any kind. I will talk to them these two weeks and we will look for the best for the team and for them, on a personal level.

– After what happened last year with Maroan Sannadi, are there higher-level teams interested in any outstanding player?

– There are many teams that bring people to Lasesarre to watch the games, but at the club we have not had any notification of anything from any team, player, or representatives.

Confidence in the forwards

– Does the lack of goals make the forward position a position to reinforce?

– The goal is a matter of streaks. We have very good forwards. Last year, Aitor Galarza scored more than ten goals and Valiño helped us a lot with six goals in the second round. The important thing is that they have opportunities and we are having them. As soon as they score a goal, many will come in a row. I trust them and the entire team a lot. Many players must contribute to the goal section.

– Your idea then is not to move the squad, beyond something specific.

– Nowadays, if there are no strange movements, some incorporation can still be made, if one of our players comes out, but we do not have that urgency that other teams have, which are going to revolutionize the squad. We are happy, the coach is also very happy and with the way the players work. No team has been vastly superior to us.

– What do you think this Barakaldo can aspire to?

– We have not yet achieved two victories in a row, which is what catapults you in such an even league. We are installed in the middle part. If this team is able to get rid of prejudices, score goals and string two or three victories in a row, I think they can give a lot of themselves.
