93-yard touchdown: Falcons surprise Rams
The Los Angeles Rams surprisingly lose to the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford sets a record, but he also loses the ball three times.
The Atlanta Falcons will miss the playoffs in the NFL, but they caused a stir at the end of the regular season: With 27:24 (21:0), the Falcons defeated the Los Angeles Rams and thus achieved their third win in a row in the American Football League. The Rams, who had already secured the playoff ticket, will certainly have to play away in the first playoff round after their second defeat in a row.
Bijan Robinson from the Falcons provided the highlight of the game: The running back ran 93 yards into the opposing end zone at the end of the second quarter. No other player in the history of the Falcons has covered more yards for a touchdown from a running game. Zane Gonzalez secured Atlanta the victory when the kicker converted a 51-yard field goal with 21 seconds left in the game.
Matthew Stafford throws 42nd touchdown pass of the season
The Falcons almost lost their 21-0 lead at halftime. After three touchdowns in the second half, the Rams equalized with just under three minutes left in the game. Los Angeles’ quarterback Matthew Stafford threw his second touchdown pass of the game. With a total of 42 touchdown passes this season, Stafford not only leads the NFL, the 37-year-old also achieved a personal best in his 17-year NFL career.
However, Stafford wasn’t really convincing: three of his passes were intercepted, and in the previous 15 games he had only had five interceptions. “Our defensive department did a great job limiting a great football player,” Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said of defending the opposing quarterback.
