ATLANTA – Raheem Morris is trying to get the Atlanta Falcons to play like the Los Angeles Rams.
The results show that Morris has found that the Rams’ success is difficult to replicate.
Head coach Sean McVay’s Rams (11-4) will look to improve their playoff position when they face the Falcons (6-9) tonight. Los Angeles is battling San Francisco for second place in the tough NFC West Division, while Atlanta hasn’t made the playoffs in eight seasons.
Morris was the Rams’ defensive coordinator under McVay from 2021 to 2023. Morris has five assistant coaches, including offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, who was also on McVay’s staff.
“We imitate and replicate a lot of things that they do and we want to continue to do that,” Morris said of the Rams.
The Falcons’ losing season could jeopardize the future of Morris, who has a record of 14 wins and 18 losses in two years.
Back-to-back wins over Tampa Bay and Arizona show the players haven’t given up on Morris. A win against the Rams could strengthen the case for a third season for Morris in Atlanta.
The Rams are trying to recover from their 38-37 overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Los Angeles leads the NFL in points scored and total offense. Matthew Stafford leads the league in touchdown passes (40), passing yards (4,179) and passer rating (112.1). Puka Nacua’s 114 receptions are also an NFL high.
Meanwhile, the Falcons have won three of five games played with Kirk Cousins at quarterback since Michael Penix Jr. suffered a season-ending knee injury. Bijan Robinson leads the league in rushing yards gained from the line of scrimmage.
The Rams have more to gain than just improving their playoff position. They can also improve their first-round pick in the 2026 draft by beating the Falcons.
The Falcons traded their 2026 first-round pick to the Rams in this year’s draft to select defensive end James Pearce Jr. at 26th overall. Before this week’s games, this trade gave the Rams the 11th overall pick. The Rams could move into the top 10 by beating the Falcons.
