REED. The new tennis courts on the UTC Fischer Ried facility were opened in April. The number of sand courts was reduced from eight to five, which means that additional space has now been available. As early as spring 2024, the OÖN reported for the first time that a padel facility could be built there. Now things are getting concrete: After a somewhat longer lead time and planning phase – among other things, a noise report had to be drawn up – the project has now been given the green light.
After the Padelbase applied for a building authority permit to build four padel tennis courts in June, the oral construction hearing took place on site on December 9th. A positive building permit has now been issued.
In a first step, two courts will be created for the trend sport, which combines elements of tennis and squash and is usually played by four people. The sport, which originally comes from South America and is particularly popular in Spain, has been becoming increasingly popular in Austria for years.
Padelbase with a lot of expertise
The two padel courts are built and operated by the Padelbase company based in Wels and four young people from Innviertel. Costs and income are divided. In 2022, the company opened its first plant in its hometown of Wels, and there are now 14 plants throughout Austria, and the number is rising. “The sport is booming. We are pleased that we will finally be in the Innviertel soon,” say the two managing directors Manfred Nareyka and his son Björn. The facility in Ried is a first step in the Innviertel, with others to follow.

“It is important to us that we work closely with local people. We want to remain regional as a national brand,” said the managing directors in an interview with OÖNachrichten. “The padel facility in Ried will be great, not least because of the great infrastructure on the new UTC Ried facility, including the restaurant,” says Manfred Nareyka.
According to Björn Nareyka, the opening of the padel courts is planned for spring 2026. It can be assumed that the first matches can be played in the two padel boxes in May. Various events, tournaments, courses and offers for schools are also planned at the Ried location. An expansion to a total of four places is also fundamentally possible, according to Björn Nareyka, who is one of the best padel players in Austria.
“We are pleased that the project is being implemented on our facility after a long lead time. This is good for our gastronomy and for the sports city of Ried,” says Florian Reiter, sports director at UTC Fischer Ried.
