Liverpool are going through a delicate period, and for Jamie Carragher, there is only one solution: act during the January transfer window. In The Telegraphthe former defender explains that the situation of the Reds is reminiscent of that of Manchester City in December 2024, with six defeats before Christmas, out of the race for the title from the New Year, and qualification for the Champions League uncertain. The Sky Blues then spent more than 200 million euros during the winter transfer window (Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, Omar Marmoush and Nico González) to try to save their season. Carragher therefore advises Liverpool to do the same, while ensuring they recruit the right profiles and not act in panic.
The club must strengthen its squad, particularly in attack and central defense, after the injury to Alexander Isak and the lack of depth to breathe Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté. Arne Slot does not have a sufficiently balanced and deep squad to ensure the fight for places in the Champions League if no recruit arrives quickly. Like City and other clubs facing similar difficulties, Liverpool should therefore invest intelligently to avoid a disappointing first half of the season compromising their objectives. It remains to be seen whether it is not already too late.
