It was another very competent season for Palmeiras led by one of the best coaches who have ever played in Brazil. And if in the end they let the Brasileirão and Libertadores escape to Flamengo, the truth is that Palmeiras has already accustomed us to always competing until the end, and only lost to a rival who had a truly historic season. Abel’s great merit is precisely this, having turned Palmeiras into a club that in recent years has always been involved in big decisions, even selling and buying so many players.

With the huge change in the game engine in Football Manager 26, the way tactics are constructed has changed substantially, forcing the player to think separately about positioning and behavior with the ball and without the ball. It’s something new that, in my opinion, made sense a long time ago, and which fortunately arrived in this year’s edition. As such, this is how we will exemplify the tactic in question, not only in terms of systems and tasks, but also, later on, in the Team Instructions.

Over the last few years, Palmeiras has shown an image of the training, management and leadership methods of Portuguese coaches. And we could not be better represented in this aspect. They are ultra competitive, which forces opponents to have to match their delivery levels if they want to try to get something out of the game. This year was no different, but we saw an interesting change caused by the excellent understanding between the forward duo Vitor Roque and López, leading Abel to exchange his 4-2-3-1 for a more declared 4-4-2. Even so, the principles of the game remained the same, in a game that combines verticality, objectivity and enormous pragmatism when it comes to attacking the goal.
Instructions to the Team (Without the Ball)
The moment without the ball is where we see one of Abel Ferreira’s main influences. The commitment of his players is evident, and is proof that they believe in their coach’s ideas. They fight for every ball, always with enormous intensity and aggression, which makes them a very strong team in duels. They are not a team that presses very high, and prefer to organize themselves in a very compact medium block. They are strong in this aspect, and it has been one of the foundations of their consistency.
