A painful (belated) Christmas present for Marcão. Sevilla’s central defender received a red card in the match against Real Madrid and has now received a suspension of six (!) matches.
The Brazilian received his second yellow card from referee Alejandro Muniz Ruiz in the second half of the match against Real Madrid. The Sevilla defender disagreed and reportedly scolded the referee with ‘you bastard’. In addition to the outburst of anger, Marcão kicked a ball towards the fourth official and he now has to grunt for that.
“Insulting, hurting or addressing the head referee, assistants, fourth official, directors or sports authorities with offensive terms or attitudes, unless it concerns a more serious offense, is punishable by a suspension of four to twelve matches,” communicates the Spanish association RFEF.
Marcão will therefore not be present when Sevilla plays against Levante, Celta de Vigo, Elche, Athletic Bilbao, Real Mallorca and Girona. He would only be able to make his return in the home match against Alaves in mid-February. Sevilla occupies tenth place in La Liga.
