Jourdan Lewis Injury: Jaguars CB Out for Season

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jourdan Lewis will undergo foot surgery and miss the remainder of the National Football League season.

This is what theAssociated PressThursday, from a person informed of the injury. This person spoke on condition of anonymity because neither the player nor the team has confirmed Lewis’ status.

The Jaguars defensive back was injured in his team’s 34-20 victory over the Denver Broncos last Sunday. The NFL Network was the first to report the upcoming operation.

The Jaguars placed Lewis on injured reserve and hired cornerback Keith Taylor to fill his spot on the 53-man roster.

In five seasons in the NFL, Taylor suited up for the Carolina Panthers, Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons.

Lewis is the second Jaguars starting defensive back to have his season cut short by injury, following rookie Travis Hunter (knee).

Lewis, Hunter and Tyson Campbell were the team’s three primary cornerbacks when the season began. Now they are no longer there, at a time when the Jaguars, who are qualified for the playoffs, are still fighting for first place in the Southern section of the American Association.

In early October, the Jaguars traded Campbell to the Cleveland Browns for Greg Newsome II, who plays the same position.

The Jaguars will trust Newsome, Montaric Brown and Jarrian Jones to handle the workload starting Sunday when they visit the Indianapolis Colts and throughout the playoffs.

Lewis started 12 games this season after agreeing to a three-year, $30 million contract as a free agent. With the Jaguars, he had 39 tackles and two interceptions and recovered a fumble.

Lewis spent the first eight seasons of his National Football League career with the Dallas Cowboys.

The Jaguars (11-4) should also have to do without the services of two members of their offensive line, namely center Robert Hainsey (groin) and right guard Patrick Mekari (back), against the Colts (8-7).
