2025 was a year in which ‘people’ were at the center of sports in Jeonbuk Self-Governing Province.
Behind the records and rankings were the athletes who quietly continued training, and behind the gold medals was the power of the team that brought the athletes together.
In various national and international competitions, Jeonbuk players and teams demonstrated their competitiveness in their respective positions, showing the current state of local sports, and at the same time leaving infinite possibilities for the next generation.
△ Advancement in National Sports Festival
Athletes from Jeonbuk Self-Governing Province performed well at the 106th National Sports Festival and various domestic and international competitions.
The 106th top prize-winning sports included golf in second place, badminton in third place, and triathlon in third place.
He won the team event in the men’s general golf division held on the last day of the competition, and Ahn Hae-cheon (Korea National Sport University) won two gold medals, winning the team event and the individual event.
In badminton, Jeonju Sacred Heart Girls’ High School proved once again that it is a renowned badminton school.
Jeonju Sacred Heart Girls’ High School’s badminton team won its second consecutive title by winning the team event, and the team of Moon In-seo and Cheon Hye-in won two gold medals by winning the individual doubles.
In addition, the team of Moon In-seo and Cheon Hye-in, who participated as the Korean junior national team at the ‘2025 German Junior Open Badminton Championships’ in March, won the championship, and at the ‘National Federation Badminton Championships’ held in Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province in September, they won the team event, doubles (Lee Ga-hyun, Cheon Hye-in), and singles (Lee Ga-hyeon).
Lee Ga-hyeon also won three gold medals in this competition.
With these results, he was awarded the 2025 Jeonbuk Sports Award this year.
In the triathlon, she won a silver medal in the general mixed relay, and Kim Hye-rang added bronze medals in the women’s regular team and individual competitions.
With the establishment of the women’s triathlon division in the Jeonbuk Self-Governing Province Sports Association next year, better results are expected in the women’s division and mixed race.
Group team activities continued.
Jeonju University’s soccer team, volleyball’s prestigious Iksan Namseong High School, handball Jeonbuk Jeil High School, and the fencing Iksan City Hall team won the team competition.
Iksan Namseong High School’s volleyball team also showed off its spirit by winning four gold medals this year.
They won the Spring Middle and High School Federation Championship in March, the Category Championships in May, the President’s Cup in August, and the National Sports Festival in October.

Jeonbuk Self-Governing Province swimming star Han Da-kyung set new Korean records in the 400m and 800m freestyle.
In the 400m freestyle, he beat his previous record by 1.20 seconds with a time of 4:09.69, and in the 800m freestyle, he beat the record he set at last year’s National Sports Festival by 1.1 second, setting two new Korean records with a time of 8:36.78.
Price’s Yang Ji-in also set a new competition record in the 25m pistol event with 42.0 points, and cyclist Lee Hyun-ji set a new competition record in the 1km individual solo race with a time of 1 minute 13.663 seconds.
In the roller race, Kim Ji-chan recorded 42.653 seconds in the 500m+D and 1 minute 22.809 seconds in the 1000m sprint, and Young-un Jeong also won the 1000m sprint with a new competition record of 1 minute 22.549 seconds.
△School sports performance ‘growing rapidly’
What should be noted in these results is the progress made in school sports.
School sports’ overall score ranking at the National Sports Festival rose from 14th last year to 12th this year.
Student athletes won 15 gold, 13 silver, and 29 bronze medals at the National Sports Festival.
In addition, winning and runner-up in the team event played a decisive role in moving up the rankings.
In particular, the reason why the high school performance improved, with Jeonbuk Sports High School athletes winning multiple medals, is probably the result of the Jeonbuk Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education’s continuous support, such as replacing old training facilities and training equipment necessary for the operation of the school sports department.
In addition, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Football Team achieved the first 10 wins in professional soccer history by winning the ‘2025 Hana Bank Korea Cup’, and also won the ‘2025 Korea Cup’, announcing its return to the throne by winning a double championship in five years since 2020.
This year was a year in which Jeonbuk Sports clearly showed ‘who is playing’.
The greats fulfilled their responsibilities, the rookies proved their potential, and the team began to move in one direction.
Achievements and tasks coexisted, but the direction was clear.
These are the ‘virtuous cycle of elite and everyday sports’ and the establishment of a ‘sustainable sports ecosystem’.
In order to achieve this, more interest and support for Jeonbuk sports is needed.
Jeonbuk sports are now establishing themselves as a public value that goes beyond simple grades and improves the quality of life for residents.
