Monaco Playoffs: French League President Warns of Elimination

LNB President Philippe Ausseur recently spoke out on the latest sanctions imposed on AS Monaco, confirming the possibility of the team’s withdrawal from the 2026 Betclic Elite Playoffs in France if administrative obstacles are not removed by the end of the 2025-26 regular season.

“The time for goodwill and patience is over. Monaco must react quickly, because otherwise, to be clear, the hand of the league, and mine, will not shake,” Ausseur recently said, according to L’Equipe.

The debt mentioned by La Roca Team relates specifically to the league’s luxury tax.

In a similar continental situation, the team led by Vassilis Spanoulis is also facing a transfer ban imposed by Euroleague Basketball.

“Given what Monaco represents overall, the strength of the squad, and the talent on the floor every game, and then looking at the administrative structure, there is a huge disparity,” declared the president of the LNB.

“These are the heaviest fines in the history of the league. Sanctions are never pleasant for our league, regardless of the independent bodies, the legal commission, or the DNCCG [direction nationale du contrôle de gestion]. If there was even a small sign of change, it would be significant. But clearly there is nothing yet,” added “This club, for various reasons, has not met administrative requirements. This is unacceptable, and the league will not back down. »

Despite league sanctions going as far as deducting a victory from the regular season tally, Monaco remains first in the standings with an adjusted record of 9-2.

At 10-7 in the EuroLeague regular season, the spots form a four-way knot for sixth place, with the lowest rank leading directly to the 2026 Playoffs.
