Marc Degryse was not impressed by the mentality of the Blauw en Zwart after the meeting between Club Brugge and La Gantoise. He saw a match between two teams who are not in great shape currently.
“As much as the Club had played with desire in the second half last week at Dender, it was again apathetic this time in the first half. No tempo with the ball, no tempo in the pressing. It was again like all season long: ‘We’ll see'”, he explains on the microphone of The Latest News.
According to Marc Degryse, the problem goes well beyond the question of the coach: “It wasn’t a better Club than the one four weeks ago under Nicky Hayen. If even Ivan Leko can’t make this team play with intensity, then it has a lot more to do with the players.”
“We have more and more the impression that this locker room only shows its true face when its back is against the wall, in the play-offs,” he continues.
The consultant also questions the real ambition of this group: “Management must ask itself what exactly it expects from this squad. Is this really a group capable and willing to crush its opponent every week? Against La Gantoise, I also found the quality on the ball insufficient. The first checks were failed, particularly at Diakhon and Forbs.”
Several executives absent
Marc Degryse also points out the absence of several executives: “When, in addition, two of your best players are absent, Tzolis and Onyedika, and Hans Vanaken is clearly looking for a vacation, we get this kind of average performance. And finally, the Club can consider itself happy to have beaten Ghent again.”

The former Belgian international, however, notes some positive elements: “The three points, the fact that the two attackers Vermant and Tresoldi scored, as well as the youngsters who receive a lot of playing time from Leko, these are the positive points that I take away from the Club side.”
