Banu Toker, the retired player of the team, draws attention in the Edirne team, which was promoted to the Turkish Women’s Basketball 1st League last year with the invitation of the Turkish Basketball Federation.
Toker, a mother of a daughter, is appreciated for her passion and determination for basketball.
Sharing his experiences in basketball to his teammates, Toker sets an example for the team’s youngest player, 15-year-old high school student Berrak Ceylan, and other young players.
“MY TEAMMATES ARE FIRSTLY CONSIDERED MY DAUGHTERS”
Banu Toker told the AA correspondent that she started playing basketball in Istanbul at the age of 7 and that she was trained in DSI infrastructure.
Stating that she loves basketball very much and that she started her 18-year-old daughter in basketball at a young age, Toker said, “I started at DSI, I will finish at DSI. One of my teammates is 3 years younger than my daughter. My teammates are primarily my daughters. In addition to being the captain, I look at them as a mother. When necessary, I first support them, but if anyone does not compete on the field, they encounter a completely different Banu sister.” he said.
Toker stated that he wanted to take on the managerial role of the team when he quit playing.
Stating that he is both a retiree and a veteran of basketball, Toker said, “Since I entered the league in 1999, I was playing in the Super League at that time. Migros is a team with which I went to the league undefeated that year, and it has a special place for me. As a result of my insurance that was started that year, I am currently retired.” he said.
Stating that sports is a passion for him, Toker said:
“Passion for basketball is completely different, it comes from the heart. We have to want it, in short, we will want basketball. It doesn’t matter whether we win or lose, the important thing is to fight on the field. We need to show this fight. We shouldn’t worry about the score, our priority is to fight.”
“WE LOVE BASKETBALL AS A FAMILY”
Toker’s daughter, Beray Toker, stated that she started playing basketball in primary school with the support of her mother.
Stating that he has continued basketball and swimming for many years, Toker said, “I am preparing for the university exam this semester. I swim in general, and I also follow basketball. My mother is very fun, but strict and disciplined. She tries to discipline me at home, just as she is tough on the field. We love basketball as a family. My father also played for a while, and now he plays in the veterans’ team.” he said.
