The Indonesian women’s tennis doubles pair, Janice Tjen/Aldila Sutjiadi, allocated a bonus of IDR 1 billion promised by the government for winning the 2025 SEA Games gold medal, as capital for the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour next season.
Aldila conveyed this assurance upon arrival at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Banten, Saturday (20/12). According to him, financial support from the government is very crucial considering the high operational costs that must be borne independently when competing in international professional tournaments.
“We will use the bonus as capital to join the WTA Tour. At the WTA we usually pay for it ourselves first, so this is very helpful for tournaments at the beginning of the year,” said Aldila.
Janice/Aldila previously performed strongly in the women’s doubles final at the National Tennis Development Center, Thailand, Friday (19/12).
They successfully silenced the host representatives, Peangtarn Plipuech/Mananchaya Sawangkaew, in straight sets with convincing scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
This victory feels special considering that the competition map in the Southeast Asia region is getting tighter. “The competition was quite tough, especially Thailand. But we tried our best and are proud to have won two gold medals,” said Aldila.
The journey to achieve gold must be paid dearly with physical sacrifices. Janice Tjen revealed that she had experienced health problems.
“I had a heatstroke and fever after the team event, so I focused on recovery,” said Janice.
Even though they performed solidly as a golden duo at the SEA Games, the two players are planned to appear with different partners at the opening of next season. This is due to previously agreed professional commitments.
“At the beginning of the year we were separated because we had appointments with other partners, but next year there will definitely be several tournaments that we will play together,” explained Aldila regarding their short-term plans on the WTA circuit.
They also dedicated this brilliant achievement in Thailand to the people of the country who never stop providing support.
“To the family, coaches and all Indonesian people who have supported,” concluded Janice. (D-4)
