The accident happened in the first period against the Washington Capitals.
Söderblom pressured Washington defender Matt Roy, who cleared the puck away. Then it bounced off Söderblom’s stick and straight up into the Swede’s face.
Söderblom fell to the ice and the blood dripped rapidly and a puddle formed on the ice. In the stands sat Söderblom’s mother, former Robinson participant Susanne Rittedal Söderblom, who was zoomed in by the television cameras with a worried expression.
Scraped away the blood
It remains to be seen whether there will be any solid food for Söderblom this Christmas. At least he was able to get off the ice himself and the game continued after the bloody part of the ice was scraped off.
– He was bleeding quite well there. I think for sure he will come back. It wasn’t that hard, but it just went a little wrong, says Peter “Foppa” Forsberg.
In the second period, Söderblom was back in a full visor.
