Morgan Rogers is the man. The Aston Villa attacker scored two wonderful curls against Manchester United. He single-handedly shot his team past Senne Lammens to a steady third place in the Premier League. Youri Tielemans and Amadou Onana also celebrated.

An evening to remember for Morgan Rogers.

Aston Villa’s revelation put his team past Manchester United in a wonderful way. Twice he beat our compatriot Senne Lammens with a measured curling ball in the far corner.

After a good start by the home team, Lammens had initially intervened well in one of the outbreaks of an unpredictable Villa, but just before half-time Rogers scored the first time.

He cut inside and scored the 1-0 flawlessly. Lammens was transfixed. A hard-fought opening goal after a first half that was more about battle than sparkle.

Witness: barely two minutes after the goal, United fought back – before the half-time signal. After good pressure, Cash lost his ball, Cunha punished mercilessly: 1-1 in the 48th minute.

In the second half, Aston Villa seemed to be on the ropes for a while. Was the match too much in a tough series?

Manchester United – without Bruno Fernandes who dropped out – showed themselves to be more energetic at times, but the home team proved at that moment that third place in the Premier League is anything but a coincidence.

No team is more comfortable when it is not in control. Villa remained calm, sparing and then struck again mercilessly.

Again, Morgan Rogers.

As if we were watching a flashback, he cut inside and curled the ball hard past Senne Lammens. It was immediately the final score of the intense match.

And so Aston Villa remains barely one point behind Manchester City (2nd) and three points behind leader Arsenal.
