In the semi-finals of the Italian Super Cup, Bologna defeated Inter 3-2 on penalties and advanced to the final.

In the match played at King Saud University Stadium, Inter took the lead with Marcus Thuram’s goal in the 2nd minute. Bologna equalized the score with Orsolini’s penalty goal in the 35th minute. The regular time of the match ended 1-1 and went straight to penalties. While Martinez and de Vrij were successful in the penalty shoot-outs for Inter, Bastoni, Barella and Bonny missed the penalties. In Bologna, Ferguson, Rowe and Ciro Immobile converted penalties into goals. Moro and Miranda were not successful.
