Mattin Iñiguez, the Euskal Kayak Surf Selekzioa and the swimmer Maider Redín have been the main protagonists of the Euskal Selekzioa 2025 awards, held this Wednesday at the Artium Museum in Vitoria, in an event organized by the Euskal Kirol Federazioen Batasuna (EKFB) to recognize the work, sporting achievements and careers of athletes, teams and federations that represent Euskal Selekzioa in international competitions. In this edition, the Bereziki awards have gone to the Euskadiko Euskal Pilota Federazioa and the Ardi Moztaileen Euskal Selekzioa.
The gala was attended by Bakartxo Tejeria, president of the Basque Parliament; Ibone Bengoetxea, first vice president and counselor of Culture and Linguistic Policy and Ángel Gurrutxaga, president of the Euskal Kirol Federazioen Batasuna (EKFB), among others. The event has also brought together sports federations, athletes representing the field of federated sports, and has served to make visible the activity carried out by Euskal Selekzioa throughout 2025, a year marked by an intense competitive agenda and a growing external projection.
In the Proiekzioa category, the award went to paraglider Mattin Iñiguez, for his participation in top-level international events such as the Red Bull
The Garaipenak award has gone to the Euskal Kayak Surf Selekzioa, which continues to consolidate a top-level sporting career. The team has won world and European titles and maintains a continued presence in the main international championships, positioning itself as a reference in this modality.
For its part, the Ibilbidea award has recognized the career of the swimmer Maider Redín, highlighting her perseverance, her sporting progression and her continued presence in state and international competitions, with numerous outstanding results.
In addition, the EKFB has awarded the Bereziki awards to the Euskadiko Euskal Pilota Federazioa and the Ardi Moztaileen Euskal Selekzioa, in recognition of their contribution to the international projection of Basque sport and their role in the preservation, modernization and dissemination of disciplines closely linked to the sporting identity.
During the event, the president of the EKFB, Ángel Gurrutxaga, made a detailed assessment of the year and stressed that “Euskal Selekzioa is today a consolidated sporting reality, with activity, structure and international presence”, the result of the sustained work of the federations, the technical teams and the athletes. Gurrutxaga highlighted that throughout 2025 Euskal Selekzioa has participated in 50 official events, with the direct involvement of 23 Basque federations and the presence of delegations from 29 countries, data that, in his words, “demonstrates that we are not facing a symbolic idea or a theoretical aspiration, but rather a real sports project, with continuity and international recognition.”
