CAN 2025: Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Stars – Guide, Schedule & Players

Tanzania is in full revival for this African Cup of Nations. At the beginning of November, the now ex-coach Hemed Suleiman was sacked and replaced by Argentinian Miguel Angel Gamondi, a regular in African football. And the Tanzanians have only played one small match since his arrival, with a friendly defeat against Kuwait (4-3).

It is therefore with little confidence and automatism that the Kilimanjaro Stars present themselves in Morocco for their fourth African Cup of Nations. The hope of a major result is logically slim, especially since they have never passed the first round in 1980, 2019 and 2023.

Player to watch: Mbwana Samatta

The Le Havre striker is not experiencing the best period of his career. Still silent in Ligue 1 despite ten appearances, the captain of Tanzania is unable to get Le Havre out of the bottom of the ranking in which they are stuck. Having played for Aston Villa, Fenerbahçe and Genk, he nevertheless remains the biggest threat on the Tanzanian offensive line with 22 goals in 85 caps. He is also the unbreakable leader of the locker room, a crucial role in a team in full transformation.
