Florentino Pérez, President real madridlaunched a new attack on the arbitration system in Spain, considering that the arbitration situation has become “the greatest source of concern” for the Royal Club, and that it harms the reputation and credibility of the competition inside and outside Spain.
Peres said in statements to the media: “I say it clearly: the biggest concern for Real Madrid is the refereeing situation in Spain. It is a problem that has transcended our borders and damaged the credibility and reputation of our championship. It is absolutely incomprehensible that the football institutions have left Real Madrid alone in this battle.”.
He added: “How is it possible that in a criminal case, we are the only ones fighting for justice? How is it possible that the chairman of the referees’ committee tells us to forget it and move on? How can we forget the biggest scandal in the history of football? We will never forget. We will never do that.”.
Regarding the Negrera case, Perez said: “How is it possible for the Federation and La Liga, which are responsible for ensuring the integrity of the competition and achieving justice, to act in this way? What explains their inaction? I hope that one day we will discover the truth. The Federation and La Liga have a duty to protect the integrity of the competition so as not to appear complicit in such a serious case. There is no doubt that the Negrera case is the most serious problem facing football today, even at the international level. As stated in recent reports, we have now learned that more than €8 million have been paid for reports technical information about the referees – which are the most expensive reports in the world – and that these reports were not seen by the coaches themselves.”.
FC Barcelona and some of its former officials are under investigation on charges of paying sums exceeding 7.3 million euros, which the club allegedly provided to Jose Maria Enriquez Negrera, the former vice president of the technical committee of referees, between 2001 and 2018.
