Manchester United were at their best and worst in an illogical but hugely entertaining 4-4 draw at home to Bournemouth. Amad Diallo and Casemiro put United ahead thanks to Antoine Semenyo’s equaliser, but two goals early in the second half put the Red Devils under pressure. Bruno Fernandes saved them with a beautiful free-kick before Matheus Cunha made it 4-3.
However, Junior Kroupi’s equalizer held United back for the third time and they had to settle for a draw, leaving them with just two points from their last three home games.
There is plenty of intrigue over how United will line up after reports suggested Amorim would deviate from the 3-4-3 he has played in every game so far. The starting
United started quickly and after a series of early chances, they took a quick lead when Amad headed a rebound over the line after Djordje Petrovic had tipped Cunha’s header into the air. United continued to press; Mbeumo, Casemiro and Cunha all tried to double the lead, but Bournemouth punished them with a brilliant run down the right by Semenyo, who shot via the post to score his seventh goal of the season but first in eight games.
United were back in front just before the break when Casemiro scored a header from a corner, helped by carelessness from goalkeeper Petrovic. But their lead barely lasted long after the break, Evanilson taking advantage of Yoro and Heaven’s inexperience to sneak in and score his first goal since August. United looked shaken and six minutes later they went behind, Tavernier scoring directly from a free kick.
Fernandes responded with a sizzling free-kick of his own to equalize and Cunha looked to have snatched victory, before substitute Junior Kroupi scored his eighth goal of the game in the 84th minute. Both teams were looking for the winning goal in this extraordinary match and it took two brilliant saves from Senne Lammens to prevent David Brooks from inflicting more misery on Amorim.
