Finally: Only biathlete Weidel in the top ten
Anna Weidel starts the final lap in fourth place, but then falls back. Her teammates were already beaten off.
Despite a promising starting position, the German biathletes missed out on a successful finish at the World Cup in Hochfilzen, Austria. As the best starter in the German Ski Association, Anna Weidel took tenth place in the 10-kilometer pursuit. The 29-year-old, who missed a total of two targets, finished the exciting final lap in fourth place.
“It was extremely painful and I may not have planned the final lap very wisely in terms of tactics. But I’m very happy with a tenth place,” said Weidel on ARD.
Italian Vittozzi wins
Vanessa Voigt started the chase race in seventh place, but fell far behind after three penalty laps and had to settle for 29th place. Her teammates Marlene Fichtner (31st place/1 shooting error), Janina Hettich-Walz (33rd/2), Julia Tannheimer (42nd/4) and Julia Kink (49th/3) went into the last race of the weekend with a considerable gap due to the sprint result.
Unlike Voigt and Weidel, they were able to improve with Lisa Vittozzi’s win (0). Behind the Italian, the overall World Cup leader Anna Magnusson (1) from Sweden came second ahead of the Norwegian Maren Kirkeeide (3).
