Alwi Wins: Final Bound After Rubber Match Victory

Indonesian men’s singles Alwi Farhan advance to the final SEA Games 2025 after defeating Justin Hoh (Malaysia) in a rubber game duel. Alwi won 21-10, 15-21, 21-14.

For the semifinal match at Thamasat Rangsit Gymnasium, Saturday (13/12/2025), Alwi has the status of second seed while his opponent is unseeded. Interestingly, the other semifinal match in the men’s singles event also pitted Indonesia’s representative against Malaysia, namely Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah vs Leong Jun Hao.

Alwi started the match by getting quite tough resistance from Justin. Gradually, Alwi started to get the wind and managed to lead 11-7 at the interval.

After that the momentum was completely in Alwi’s hands. Quickly, Justin’s match at the first gym ended with a score of 21-10.

Justin engineered a comeback at the start of the second game by immediately stepping on the gas and winning 6-1 over Alwi with four points in a row. Justin then strung together five points in a row to lead 11-2 at the interval, taking advantage of several responsible balls from Alwi.

After the interval, Alwi Farhan slowly starting to get up, encouraged by motivational shouts in the arena. He collected point by point in order to scrape the gap. On the other hand, Justin was no less enthusiastic, especially since his lead was quite overwhelming. Alwi finally had to give up the second game, 15-21.

As a game that determines the final ticket SEA Games 2025the competition in the third game was immediately tough with points being fought over at the start. After the score was 2-2, Alwi got the wind and added five points in a row. The lead belonged to Alwi at the third game interval, 11-6.

After the interval, Justin got close to scoring Alwi’s points, who immediately responded with a series of seven points in a row which brought him closer to winning points, 19-9.

Slowly but surely, Alwi continued to add points while his opponents were chasing him. Victory belonged to Alwi after Justin was dead-stepping without being able to return the ball to his right side. Alwi Farhan won 21-14 in the third game and secured a ticket to the final.

Before this match there had been five matches involving Indonesian representatives. The final tickets were also won by Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari and Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh. Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.

Looking at the schedule, Indonesia still has two more representatives remaining to play in the badminton semifinals SEA Games 2025 today. There are Putri Kusuma Wardani and Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah.
