Head coach of “Kairata” Raphael Urazbakhtin spoke about the impact of the Almaty club’s participation in the Champions League on football in Kazakhstan.
“The outgoing year can be called historic for all of Kazakhstani football. The last time Astana played in the Champions League was 10 years ago. And “Kairat” found itself at this stage for the first time. This is a great event for the club and Kazakhstan as a whole.
With our successes, we made Kazakhstan love football again. A lot of people have turned to football, many children have become fans and now want to be active. And “Kairat” has become a more recognizable club not only in Kazakhstan, but also, at least, in post-Soviet countries. There is a football boom in the country; now many officials want to build stadiums, and the president has instructed businessmen to take the clubs into private hands. Our success contributed to this, we did a good job,” Urazbakhtin said in a conversation with “Championship” correspondent Vladimir Chetverik.
