A start to the season with few precedents in history, 24 wins and 1 defeat.
The Oklahoma City Thunder’s season is already a historic one and everything points to the possibility of beating the 2016 Golden State Warriors record of 73 wins and just 9 defeats. However, the Golden State Warriors themselves represent what currently seems to be the only obstacle towards the back to back. We’re not talking about this year’s Warriors (who can beat OKC anyway) but the 2016 Warriors.
The 2015/2016 season was probably the most iconic season in NBA history with the retirement of Kobe Bryant and the 73-9 record of the San Francisco franchise. The team coached by Steve Kerr had surpassed the record of Jordan’s Bulls and seemed to have the path paved for the back to back after the 2015 victory. However, they had not taken into account LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers. June 2016, Curry and co are ahead 3-1 and everything is set to celebrate the ring but it is now that history takes another direction, it is the beginning of the end. LeBron James and Kyrie Irving lead the Cavaliers to a historic comeback culminating in the Game 7 victory.
Will history repeat itself? In Oklahoma they are already trying to contact the Neapolitans to be taught some superstitious rituals.
