Van der Vaart puts in the Grab Scale Podcast from shore about Berghuis, who switched from Feyenoord to Ajax in the summer of 2021. “Berghuis… I hear that from my son and a lot of people don’t know that, but that might be nice to tell,” the former midfielder begins. “Berghuis spends a lot of time with those young boys. He always asks how much they have played and he has been involved with those boys for years.”

“Damián says that and then I think: yes, that’s a shame, because if he plays poorly I want to be able to give him a slap on the ears,” jokes the 109-time international. “No, I really like that he does that,” praises Van der Vaart.

Although the 33-year-old left foot has hardly played this season, Van der Vaart can still enjoy him immensely. “In my opinion, he is still the best at Ajax. It’s a shame that he has many injuries. You really need him.” Berghuis is currently struggling with a groin injury and it is not clear when he can return. As a result, the attacker only played eight games in the Eredivisie and one in the Champions League.
