Same-sex ice dancing couples will now be allowed to take part in British Figure Skating Association competitions. The association announced that the regulation applies to all events, including national championships. This should apply from the 2026/2027 season.
The association said the new rule reflects its commitment to making ice skating inclusive and accessible to all.
Britain is not the first country to allow same-sex couples to compete. In Canada, same-sex couples have been allowed to compete in national events in pair skating and ice dancing since 2023.
Participation by same-sex couples is not permitted in International Skating Union (ISU) competitions.
