The Italian Marcell Jacobs, Olympic 100m champion in 2021 in Tokyo, could continue his career until the Los Angeles Games in 2028 if he manages to rediscover the “spark”, he explained on Wednesday December 10. “If I ever find that spark again that I’m trying to rekindle at all costs, I would like to have a clear situation that would allow me to train at 100%,” Jacobs, 31, told broadcaster Sky Sport Italia. “And in this case, it would not be for one year, but at least for three years. The goal would become Los Angeles 2028,” he continued. Since his resounding 100m/4x100m double in Tokyo, Jacobs, slowed down by repeated injuries, has returned to the ranks at world level. He was certainly crowned European champion in the 100m in 2022 and 2024, but had to settle for 5th place in the 100m at the 2024 Paris Olympics and 4th in the 4x100m relay. Last September, at the Tokyo Worlds, the Italian was eliminated in the semi-final.
